Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Leicestershire County Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the 'non-compliances’ listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • Some ID attributes on pages aren’t unique, so people using screen readers and other assistive technologies may find it difficult to access elements lower down the page.  This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.1 Parsing.

  • Some elements don’t have sufficient colour contrast which can make them difficult to read for users with low vision. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum).

  • Navigating using a keyboard could be improved. For some elements is took more than 1 tab to get past them. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.4.3 Focus Order or 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap

We plan to fix these issues by 31 January 2023.

Disproportionate burden

The thumbnails for some external videos don't display the full video screen. We are unable to resolve this as it is a third party's Youtube channel.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will regularly review the accessibility of this website with automated testing using the Lighthouse and axe accessibility tools and NVDA screen reader. We will also conduct manual testing exercises, and review any issues reported by users of the website. We will work with our developer to make improvements.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 10 October 2022.

This website was last tested on 6 October 2022. We did our own testing using the Lighthouse and axe accessibility tools and NVDA screen reader. We also conducted manual testing exercises such as navigating using a keyboard and different zoom settings and screen sizes.

We tested a number of pages that included a wide range of functionality including videos, show/hide, online forms and search.
